DARREN COLES / THE PERSON BEHIND WOTS

I build websites
that earn their keep.

I’m Darren Coles. I build, connect and look after websites—and work on the SEO that helps customers find them. Word On The Street is my business, based in Dee Why on the Northern Beaches.

Talk to me about your website

A WEBSITE HAS A JOB TO DO.

Your shopfront.
Your catalogue.
Part of your business.

That’s how I look at a website. It’s where people find out what you sell, have a look around and decide whether to get in touch. It needs to look the part, explain the offer and make the next step easy.

I also get involved in what happens behind the screen. The booking that needs to feed into EPOS. The function your existing site doesn’t have. The product or brand page that needs to be found in search. Those details matter because they’re part of how the business actually works.

My work covers straightforward business sites, ecommerce stores, ongoing SEO and bespoke systems. The starting point is the same: show me what you have, tell me what’s getting in the way, and let’s work out what needs doing.

HERE’S WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE

I get into
the working parts.

The shop and the systems behind it.

For Manly Surfboards, my work includes ongoing SEO, building the website-to-EPOS interface and custom code for specific jobs the business wants done. Manly Surf Hire adds another side of that work: a bespoke booking site feeding back into EPOS. I also look after the Shopify-based Surfboards Direct store.

Search that gets specific.

With JFK Automation, the ongoing SEO focuses on products and brands such as Control4, Savant, Crestron and Ajax. That means looking at what someone is searching for and making the relevant offer clear. It’s the sort of work that takes you beyond a general description of the business and into the things its customers actually need.

Bookings connected to the real world.

Dog Direction Country Club brings subscriptions, virtual tokens and park bookings together with its security system in an automated process. It’s a good example of the kind of website work I enjoy getting involved in: a specific business requirement with several parts that need to work together.

Rebuilding when things have gone wrong.

For Harbourside Yacht Management, I’m rebuilding the site following website data loss. The job is to recreate it as closely as possible to the original company’s design, with SEO to follow.

LET’S START WITH WHAT YOU NEED.

Show me
your website.

Tell me what you want it to do. Bring the awkward bit, the missing connection or the page you know should be doing a better job. You don’t need to turn it into a technical brief before we talk.

We can start with the business, look at what’s already there and work out a sensible next step.
